“If you compromise what you’re trying to do just a little bit, you’ll end up compromising a little more the next day or the next week, and when you lift your head you’re suddenly really far away from where you’re trying to go.”— Spike Jonze
Adam Spiegel, or more commonly known as Spike Jonze is a multi award winning director, with a Grammy awarded to him for ‘Best music video’ in 2001 for Fatboy Slim’s ‘Weapon of Choice’. He has also been awarded 13 other awards for his directing including a Golden Globes award for best Screenplay.
When watching some of Spike Jonze’s work it became clear that he likes to do a variation of shot types, with many being tracking shots, close ups and Mid shots. He likes the camera moving with or just before the character moves.
His style includes an element of storytelling in an interesting way, often with bizarre things, like in his Someday short film, when the protagonist put in the Airpods (it was an Apple short film) he was suddenly transported to a different world where everything was better, and performance, with many of his pieces including a dancing aspect.
